Kimberly M. Cahill Fund

Kimberly M. Cahill Fund

Nearly six years ago the WLAM Foundation established a special fund in memory of Kimberly M. Cahill, the Foundation's long-serving Treasurer and dear friend.  Kim passed away on January 21, 2008, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.  A gifted leader, Kim served not only on the Foundation's Board, but also as State Bar President (2007) and President of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.  Donations to the WLAM Foundation continue to grow and honor her memory.

In Kim's honor, the Foundation commits all Cahill Fund contributions to projects benefiting women leaders.  In the discretion of the WLAM Foundation Board, awards are made to outstanding women law students meeting the Foundation's criteria for leadership.  In March of 2013, the Foundation chose and honored Caitlin Howitt as the fifth Cahill scholar.  Ms. Howitt received scholarship support for her education at the University of Michigan Law School on the basis of her many accomplishments:

After graduating from Brown University and receiving a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge, Caitlin went on to law school at the University of Michigan with the goal of becoming a prosecutor. In her time at law school she has focused her interests on the prosecution of violent crimes against women and children, interning at the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section in Washington, D.C., as well as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office’s Sexual Assault Team in Detroit. She is the President of the Criminal Law Society, and works as a mentor to first-year law students interested in criminal law careers. Caitlin will be working as an attorney in the Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps after graduation, where she hopes to gain experience in criminal prosecution and family law.

Contributors to the Cahill Fund at the $125 and above level each year will receive admission to and recognition at the Foundation's Annual Awards Reception.  Held each spring to announce winners of the Foundation's annual scholarships, the Reception features keynote remarks on leadership, and an opportunity to network with other donors and community leaders.  More information is available at www.wlamfoundation.org.

Donations to the Cahill Fund may be payable to the "WLAM Foundation" and mailed to Paula Talarico, 3150 Livernois, Suite 235, Troy, MI 48083; donations may also be charged to a credit card here (include "Cahill Fund" in the comments section).
